Hi, I'm Kathleen Gillis, founder of Cape-able Kids Occupational Therapy.

I graduated from Dalhousie University in 2008 with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy and have spent the past 20 years working as a pediatric occupational therapist in Alberta. Throughout my career, I have supported children and families in developing the skills they need to participate more fully and independently in everyday life.

My practice focuses on sensory processing, self-regulation, feeding, toileting, sleep, fine motor development, and supporting children with autism and other developmental differences. I believe in providing compassionate, trauma-informed, family-centred care that celebrates each child's unique strengths.

I'm thrilled to be returning home to Nova Scotia and look forward to supporting children and families across Cape Breton.

  • "Kathleen took the time to truly understand our son and what he needed to feel calm, safe, and successful. The sensory strategies she recommended made an immediate difference, and we saw fewer meltdowns and much better regulation both at home and at school. She also helped him build his play skills and confidence with other children in a way that felt natural and fun. We are grateful for her knowledge, and genuine care for our family."

  • "Kathleen made learning to print fun and engaging for our son. She helped strengthen the skills behind handwriting, not just the letters themselves, and gave us simple activities we could do at home. His confidence has grown tremendously, his printing is much neater, and for the first time, he actually enjoys writing."

    -Parent

  • "One of the things we appreciated most about Kathleen was how much she supported us as parents. She never made us feel judged and always explained the 'why' behind her recommendations. We left sessions feeling better equipped to help our child."
